Optimizing Your PC's System Configuration For Free Performance

Are you on the never ending quest for more performance? Well if you're a gamer or just playing nuts about PC optimization this article will put you in good sted because I'm going show you one of the best and not to mention easiest ways to squeeze some extra performance from your beloved PC.
So what is the System Configuration? Well it serves more than one function so it's quite hard to narrow down. But one of the main functions is where you can have easy access to all your programs running on Windows. But like I said, the System Configuration does give you access to other options as well.

So you know a little about the System Configuration, lets start tuning it up for faster PC performance.
First of all you want to go to Start or the Start orb for Vista owners and type "MSconfig" This will bring up the System Configuration panel.

From the System Configuration you'll want to start on the General tab and make sure that you have "Selective startup" Selected. This will give you full control and allow you to tinker to your heart's content.

Once you've done that you'll want to go to the "Startup" tab. What the startup tab shows is all the third party programs that automatically start running when you boot up your PC. So simply untick the ones you don't want running in the background at start up and this will free up more of your PC's resources like the CPU and Ram to focus on the programs that matter to you.
You can turn them all off for best performance but I would recommend keeping your anti virus running to protect your PC. And if you've got an third party fire wall I would recommend to keep that running as well. But everything else can get the chop.

Once you've done that click "Apply" and move on to the "Services" tab.
The Services section works in the same way as the "Startup" tab but this is where all your Windows programs are running. Now I wouldn't recommend turning them off in the System Configuration as it's better to turn them off in another section of Windows.

So instead go to the bottom of the panel and tick the "Hide all Microsoft services" This will hide all the Microsoft services and leave the third party programs. Once again I would recommend turning everything of barring your anti virus and click apply.

Now moving on to the "Boot" tab. You want to look for the "No GUI boot" and tick it. What does GUI stand for? I haven't got the foggiest but what I do know is when you turn it on it deactivates the Windows loading screen when your booting up your PC. What this does is give you a slightly faster boot times. It's nothing recording braking but if your PC is taking ages to boot up I guess ever second counts eh.

The next thing you want to do within the "Boot" tab is click on the "Advanced options..." A new Window will open and from in there you want to tick the "Number of processor" box. This will allow you to select the number of cores you want your PC to boot up with. For example if you've got a duel core you would select 2 but if you've got a quad core CPU you would select 4 and so on.
What this does is tells you computer how many CPUs to use when booting so instead of booting up using one core, your PC will now boot up using the maximum amount of CPU cores which will result in quicker boot times again. Once you made the changes click "OK"

That's how to optimize the System Configuration. Hopefully you should notice that your PC is more responsive, less laggy and should boot up quicker. Not bad for 5 minutes work eh.

Influence of Internet on the Education System

The Information highway or the Internet has changed the way the world goes about doing things. It is one more point in a long continuum of inventions that is set to revolutionize lifestyles. One is inclined to ask, how does the ability of computers to talk to each other improve the learning process in the classroom? How does it make a difference in study of epics like the Odyssey and the Iliad? These questions and more will be answered in the following passages. The Internet has a more pervasive effect than other electronic media and is the modern engine of progress; it is the new form of thinking that will show a fresh approach to online education.

Personal computers and the Information Superhighway are rapidly transforming America. Already, the Internet is making large amounts of information available at unprecedented speeds. When this revolution makes itself fully felt in schools, teachers and students will have virtually instantaneous access to vast amounts of information and a wide range of learning tools. If we guide the information revolution wisely, these resources will be available not only to affluent suburban schools but also to rural school districts and inner-city schools. Broad access can reduce differences in the quality of online education and give children in all areas new opportunities to learn. Used well, this transforming technology can play a major role in school reform.

The new technology will enable students to acquire the skills that are essential to succeed in modern society. Exposure to computer technology in school will permit students to become familiar with the necessary tools at an early age. By using the technology well, they will also acquire better thinking skills to help them become informed citizens and active community members.
The drive to integrate technology into our nation's schools goes far beyond the Internet. If the Internet didn't exist, advanced technology would still have so many valuable educational uses distance learning applications, collaborative learning, and so forth that far larger investments than are being contemplated would be justified.

Web resources are excellent tools for researches. Let's not kid ourselves, however. Even if policymakers, practitioners, and parents did decide what their goals were and even if the research findings supported one of several configurations of hardware and software, deciding when, how, or if to use technology (or any other reform) in the classroom is not likely to be determined solely on these bases. Many other factors--ranging from parental pressure to superintendents wanting to leave their fingerprints on the district to technology corporations promoting their products--shape decisions to buy and allocate technologies to schools.

The Internet is an incredible information resource and a powerful communication tool. The ability to use new technologies is becoming a more important factor in career options, and the future success of today's students will be more affected by their understanding of and ability to access and use electronic information. The increased use of on-line services in the home by children adds to the impetus for schools to take a more active role in family education regarding their use.
Schools have the potential to be access points and online educational centers for exploring Internet resources. Increased involvement of parents in school education programs can help address community concerns and can improve their children's overall academic performance. If educators assume responsibility for helping students master the use of technology and educating them about potential risks, students will become more empowered to make intelligent choices.
Multicultural education relates to education and instruction designed for the cultures of several different races in an educational system. This approach to teaching and learning is based upon consensus building, respect, and fostering cultural pluralism within racial societies. Multicultural education acknowledges and incorporates positive racial idiosyncrasies into classroom atmospheres.
The concept of learning styles is rooted in the classification of psychological types. The different ways of doing so are generally classified as: Concrete and abstract perceivers and Active and reflective processors.

There are many academic and psychological issues do minority students encounter such as: low single head of household, low socioeconomic status, low minority group status, limited English proficiency, low-educational attainment of parents, mobility, and psychosocial factors.
Not only do school programs and practices have a direct impact upon student success, but the school and community contexts in which these programs and practices occur also affect success rates. "Context" is comprised of numerous factors. Some contextual variables can have a positive impact upon students, while others work against student success.

The call for total school reform strongly suggests that existing conceptions of education are inadequate for promoting multicultural equity. Unfortunately, these same conceptions have shaped the schooling of prospective teachers. Their education likely has been characterized by tracking (the process of assigning students to different groups, classes, or programs based on measures of intelligence, achievement, or aptitude), traditional instruction that appeals to a narrow range of learning styles, and curricula that exclude the contributions of women and people of diverse cultures. Competition drives this factory model of schooling, in which students tend to be viewed as products coming off an assembly line.

Education is a fundamental human process; it is a matter of values and action. The cluster of technologies called the Internet has the ability to complement, to reinforce, and to enhance the educational process. It will take the focus of education from the institution to the student. The Internet has come to befriend, dwell with, and live beyond, both, the teacher and the student. African wisdom says, "It takes an entire village to raise a child".

My personal conclusion is that all students, regardless of race, ethnic group, gender, socioeconomic status, geographic location, age, language, or disability, deserve equitable access to challenging and meaningful learning and achievement. This concept has profound implications for teaching and learning throughout the school community. It suggests that ensuring equity and excellence must be at the core of systemic reform efforts in education as a whole.

Listening and Understanding With Social Intelligence Tools

When I was a kid, my parents always encouraged me to be a good listener. They wanted me to listen to them, of course, but also to teachers, other adults, my siblings and playmates. Little did they know that one day listening would become a big part of the business I'm in.
Listening is a hot topic in Web analytics today primarily because companies in all types of industries are coming to terms with social media platforms.

Facebook and Twitter give customers a place to talk, connect and share their feelings and ideas about anything and everything, including brands and businesses. Because they don't control the conversation, many companies aren't sure what these new channels mean to their business.

Specifically, organizations are not sure what to do first with social media. Jump right in or keep out of the conversation altogether? Quietly seek friends among the current base? Perhaps advertise a little?

These are tricky questions to answer. Listening is a great place to start, because it helps companies understand who their customers are, what they want, and how they feel about current offerings. Just like my folks believed listening would make me a better person and help me learn, businesses can better understand their online marketing and service opportunities by listening to what people - past and current customers, future customers, advocates, influencers - are already saying about them.

Technology is part of the story. Listening software and tools are attracting lots of attention. A recent Forrester reporter described the evolution beyond "basic brand monitoring tools" and toward technology that can "turn social media data into actionable insight." That's the heart of effective analytics, in our view.

The end game is what Forrester calls "social intelligence - the concept of informing marketing and business decisions with insights found in social media data." To get there, "the technology and analytics infrastructures that mine and analyze social media to deliver insight... become essential tools within the enterprise."

We can't argue with that perspective, but technology isn't a silver bullet here. Just because technology enables you to listen and can notify you when your brand pops up in an online conversation, it doesn't mean you'll automatically have the insights you need to improve your online operations or strengthen connections to customers.

Like analytics more generally, listening means committing resources, opening up to new ideas and perspectives, and being prepared to action on insights. Yes, you need technology to listen, but you need to people to learn and decide the best course of action based on what you're hearing. In our experience, few companies put enough people behind their analytics technology.

Gatorade, for instance, has created a "mission control center" where a number of full-time associates monitor Twitter and Facebook, 24 hours a day, using tools to "aggregate and weigh real-time opinions." They may reach out when customers are looking for more information, but seem to be thoughtful about jumping in too quickly or intrusively. That's good listening. It's also important to note that the effort is focused on the big idea of the business - which is to sell more sports drinks. All analytics efforts should be grounded in the reality of the business.

Here's another example, from the usually very chatty media industry:
News organizations are getting more scientific about studying the value of... social media services... The Washington Post... is looking for patterns that could illuminate whether certain types of stories are more appealing to audiences in social networks... and has started compiling a daily tracking report showing what social networks are driving audiences to the Post and what those users are reading.
Again, that's good listening and, because it's linked to core business objectives, effective analytics.

Both Gatorade and Washington Post recognize that they are just getting started in the listening business. That's fitting because social media users are a constantly moving target. Listening isn't something to be done for a short time or during a one-off initiative. New media requires long-term ears.

One other point about listening and understanding: because social networking is in its infancy and all the hype is distracting, companies may be tempted to overlook the basics of analytics. You must keep "listening" to the activity from your core online efforts, like traffic patterns on your web site and the effectiveness of your email campaigns. Listening to Facebook and Twitter is not a shortcut to analytics success. But, listening can lead to understanding, which can allow you to properly weigh and balance the impact of social media on your web site.

These same principles apply for smaller organizations. You don't need advanced software or daily tracking reports or a huge technology budget, but rather only Twitter and Facebook accounts, maybe a few freeware tools and the willingness to invest some time. In return, you can hear firsthand what people are saying about your company, products and industry. Some consider this an alternative to focus groups. The next step - figuring out the best way to connect with them to grow your business - is what social media is all about. That's why it's so popular with small businesses.

Think about it - if word of mouth is the best marketing there is, you have to have your ears open to understand how well you're doing and how you might get out the right word to your target listeners. It's not a stretch to say that you have to listen before you can say anything people will want to hear.

Or, as my parents would put it, listening helps you learn and then you can join the conversation with something intelligent to say.

Cloud Based Contract Management - What To Look For

Cloud systems are fast becoming popular with businesses across the world because of their cost and time cutting services. Cloud vendors (Google, Amazon etc) upload a host of applications onto their clouds and when users connect to the service remotely, these applications are available for instant use - saving the user the time and money it would usually cost to install such applications on their own device.

This article explains the advantages of using cloud systems, how you can use cloud systems when it comes to contract management and finally, what to look out for in terms of risk.

What to look out for
By uploading files to the cloud, the cloud provider inevitably has access to those files. It's basically a trust issue - if you read the terms and conditions of your cloud provider, they should state what they can and cannot do with your files. Encrypting these particular documents may help.
Note: The majority of cloud providers do not have a hidden agenda to read your documents, they're simply running a genuine service and want to uphold a solid reputation.

If your cloud provider goes down for whatever reason, then your saved files are inaccessible. The age-old point made earlier about backing your files up to disc is the best solution to this problem.
The firewalls installed on your machine(s) are no longer relevant. Again, this is a trust issue. If a cloud provider does not have sufficient protection then your work could be vulnerable to attack from hackers.

Some vendors offer different service packages or a pay-as-you go service. Analyse which is the best for you. When taking up the pay-as-you go option be careful to not leave your cloud account open as you work on other programmes throughout the day, as you could be charged by the hour. Log on and off religiously - this also protects your account from being accessed by someone else when you go on your dinner break!

Five ways in which the tools aid contract management
Alongside the things to look out for with cloud-based contract management, there are also tools that go to show how effective this form of management is. Five big ones include:
• Lower sale cycles - with the paper trail eliminated, turnaround time increases.

• Increase customer loyalty - faster service = happier customer.

• Cut work time - no need for writing contracts, faxing them out and signing.

• More information - easier for everyone to see the contract and what it means.

• Proper ROI - rapid, effective and legal.

Learning Management System Basics

A Learning Management System (LMS) can provide tremendous benefits both for the training department and for the organization in general. There are numerous choices for LMS providers, as well as functionalities, so an LMS implementation project can become quite confusing. Just what are the LMS basics and how can a system help your organization?

To start with, let's discuss what an LMS really is. In basic terms, the LMS is a system that helps you deliver and manage training in numerous formats. One of the first misconceptions about an LMS is that it is used solely for the delivery of online courses. While this is an important component, it is not the only reason to use an LMS. The LMS consists of a few separate parts. First, the management system consists of the tracking and reporting of the organization and individual learning activities. Second, the content authoring system (or LCMS) allows the training department to create and or upload its own in-house or purchased learning content and courses, and the third part is the content and courses themselves.

Why would an organization need an LMS? The tracking feature of most LMS systems is worthwhile in itself. Individuals, their managers, and organizational management can track who has completed what courses for advancement, certifications, compliance, and even human resources concerns. Plus, the record, if backed up properly, will always exist. The LMS tracking can also assist in measurement of training effectiveness by managing evaluations, course completions, and course attendance - this is a tremendous benefit that renders manual tracking obsolete. The LMS content delivery system can deliver training to diverse populations in any Inter- or Intranet accessible location and can even serve as a knowledge repository for policies, procedures, and quick reference guides. The LMS can serve as an "educational counselor" for individual associates, keeping track of their career path and showing them what courses they need to complete in order to move to the next career level.
Along those lines, managers can coach employee development using the information from the LMS. For example, if an employee wants to advance or has specific issues in specific subject areas, the manager can locate appropriate training courses or content and put them in the employee's learning plan. The manager can also pull transcripts to make sure that learning has been a part of the employee's development, especially when performance evaluation time arrives. The easiest functions for employees include looking up classroom courses, registering for them, and setting reminders to attend.

Training content is also not limited to employees. Some organizations use their LMS to deliver content to multiple locations as well as partners, clients, and vendors. Access to content is dependent on a pre-assigned security level, so keeping people in the correct subject areas is relatively simple.
There are some potential opportunities to be found with an LMS. Some "vanilla" systems may require extensive customization to suit each organization. When choosing an LMS, it is absolutely necessary to analyze your organization's business and determine what functions you really need. Customizations can become quite expensive. In addition, choosing a course library is also a potential opportunity. There are many choices out there, from general to specific, so it's again important to determine what types of content your organization needs before purchasing a library. Along with course libraries comes the ability to create or upload in-house content. Be sure to look at the options for this before selecting a system. Some LMS providers have highly functional content management systems that would allow content designers, instructors, or even subject matter experts to create content that is branded and suitable for immediate delivery. Other systems may require that a graphics designer create the course in a format that is compatible to the LMS and upload it, which creates an extra step between content design and deployment.

But along with potential opportunity comes tremendous benefit to the organization. First, automated tracking and delivery creates efficiency, cost savings, and better reporting. This tracking also makes it easy to cover compliance related bases or to prove that employees received a certain type of training. The self-management features of the LMS, such as career paths and transcripts, can create upward mobility for the employee population as well as higher retention for the organization. Many LMS providers offer a "testing engine" which allows for all testing to occur online, whether the employee attended class online or in a classroom. And some LMS providers even offer the ability for online course participants to collaborate virtually, another great way to engage learners and encourage them to network with their peers across the organization.

Now that you have an idea of the Learning Management System basics, you can select providers that best suit your organization's needs - and lessen the fear of ultimately making a choice.
