What to Expect With Web Based Project Management

To manage projects in the modern world requires software that can keep up with the pace you want to set. With web-based project management, you have everything you need at your fingertips without the need to install bulky software. You open up a browser, log into the website, and you are working in your projects. It is just that simple.
But, what should you expect with project software based on the web? Here are a few things to consider:

1. You should expect the software to be easy to use. Managing projects is a challenge. But, when you have hard to use software, it can become a nightmare. Using a simply designed interface can be a real treat after navigating traditional standalone software. When you have a system that team members can access, the need for simplicity is even greater. There is no need to bring complications in.

2. The users should be able to customize their views, using web based project management. One way to make navigation easy in these types of system is to allow the users to customize what they see. That means offering them tabs in which to pin different projects. It means giving them the ability to customize their color and their layout.

3. The software should provide information that provides control over the project. All project management systems provide information on controlling projects. However, the web-based system should integrate project team members input. It should give the manager real time information on where the project stands. It should provide reminders and notifications by email and calendar. With this level of control, the chances of project success are enhanced.

4. Collaboration should be much easier with web based project management. Using discussion forums and whiteboards should be an integral part of the program. Design collaboration and management should be integrated as well. All of this helps to build team interaction and thus enhances project success.

5. You should expect full integration with email, calendars, and other pieces of business life with any web based project management system. If you have to transfer information from one piece of software to another, then it defeats the purpose of a project management system. While it may not cover all aspects of the infrastructure, basics like email and calendars need integration.

This is only a partial list of what you can expect when you make the change from standalone project software to one based on the Internet.
